Plated: Feedback Session
The Plated v3 prototype was shared with three people who fit the target user profile. Each was asked to open the prototype without any explanation and try to use it.
Observations were noted during the session and open questions were asked afterward.
Who gave feedback
P, 26, product manager at a fintech startup, Murray Hill.
Works 9 to 9 most days. Has a gym membership she uses twice a week if she is lucky. Orders in four to five nights a week. Has tried Factor Meals twice and cancelled both times. Strong fit for the target user.
D, 24, first-year analyst at a consulting firm, Hoboken.
Commutes into the city daily. Gets lunch at the office but is on his own for dinner. Cooks on weekends occasionally. Describes himself as someone who "means to eat healthier." Reasonable fit, slightly younger than the core user.
A, 27, freelance UX designer, Brooklyn.
Works from home, sets her own hours, but describes her schedule as "chaotic in a different way." No office lunch. Health-conscious and specific about ingredients. Strong fit, slightly different lifestyle context.
What they said
P:
On the landing screen, without any prompt: "Okay so this is like... someone picks my food for me? And I just say yes?"
When asked what felt unclear: "I didn't know if the curator was a real person or an algorithm. That actually matters to me. If it's a person I trust it more."
When asked if she would use it: "Honestly yes. The thing I hate most about DoorDash is opening it. This removes that part entirely. I would try it."
On the price shown in the plan: "Seventy-eight dollars for the week is fine. That's less than I spend ordering in and feeling bad about it."
D:
Spent about 20 seconds on the landing screen before scrolling. Tapped "Set up my concierge" without hesitation.
On the onboarding form: "This is a lot of questions. I don't know how I'd answer the health goals one. I just want food that isn't terrible for me. None of these chips quite fit."
When shown the meal plan: "Wait, these are real restaurants? I thought it would be like a meal kit thing. This is actually better." Then, after a pause: "But how do I know these places are actually clean? Like do you vet them?"
When asked if he would use it: "Yeah probably. Especially during a heavy project week."
A:
Read every word on the landing screen before doing anything. Then said: "I like that it says local kitchens. That's the thing that makes me trust it. Factor Meals tastes like it was made three days ago in New Jersey."
On the onboarding form: "I would want to be more specific about oils and ingredients. Like I genuinely cannot eat canola oil daily. The form doesn't let me go that deep."
On the approval screen: "I like that there's a 'request a change' option. That's what makes me feel like I'm not just being fed whatever. I have an out."
When asked if she would use it: "If the quality is actually what it says, yes. But I would want to see more about how the kitchens are selected before I commit to anything."
What I observed
All three went to the landing screen first and read the headline before doing anything else. "No menu. No decisions. Just dinner, handled." landed cleanly for P and A. D skimmed it and moved on, which suggests the headline works for someone already bought into the premise but may not do enough work for someone who needs more convincing.
The onboarding form caused the most friction. All three slowed down at the health focus chips. The options felt either too broad ("Balanced meals") or too specific ("Anti-inflammatory") for what they actually wanted to communicate. D abandoned the section halfway and scrolled past it. "A" filled it in but immediately said she wanted a free text field instead.
The meal plan approval screen was the most positive moment across all three sessions. Seeing real restaurant names from neighborhoods they knew visibly shifted the energy in the room. "A" said "oh" in a way that was clearly positive. That moment, more than any copy on the landing page, was where the product became real to them.
The curator attribution, "Curated by Maya," was noticed by P and A but not D. P pointed at it specifically: "Is Maya a real person?" That question is the most important one the prototype generated.
